Our Second Month: By the Numbers

On May 4th, we celebrated two months of being on the road. That means a third of our journey is already finished... but we would rather focus on the two-thirds yet to come! Here is our second month "by the numbers"...

7,425: Total number of miles traveled (Stevens Point, WI to Patagonia, AZ)
3,135: Number of miles traveled in April
18.7: Total average MPG (we normally get about 30 mpg when not pulling the trailer)
20: Nights spent in the Burro in April
9: Nights spent in friends' homes in April (thank you, Susan!)
1: Nights spent in a Walmart parking lot (close to Zion National Park so we could race for a first come-first serve campsite)
15: Total number of states visited
7: Number of National Park/Monument sites visited in April (Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Pecos National Historic Park, Bandelier National Monument, Navajo National Monument, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area)
$84: Number of dollars saved by using our America the Beautiful Annual Pass to get into federal recreation sites (thank you, Mom and Dad Buchholz!)
1: Number of National Forests visited in April (Dixie-Red Canyon)
4: Number of State Parks visited in April (Capstone Canyons in TX, Hyde Memorial in NM, Coral Pink Sand Dunes in UT, Kodachrome Basin in UT)
1: Number of controversial dams visited (Glen Canyon Dam... on Earth Day!)
19: Number of longhorn cattle walking in the road during the Fort Worth Stockyard Cattle Drive
3: How old Walden turned on April 11th 
60+: Number of miles hiked with Walden in backpack in April (Daddy's back hurts just thinking about it!)
5: Number of times we were snowed on during the month of April (wait, weren't we trying to escape this?)
32°: Temperature (F) inside the Burro on our coldest night (Hyde State Park in the mountains outside of Santa Fe, April 16)
18: Number of tiny prickers pulled out of Walden's leg after tripping over a cactus (yes, Daddy was chasing him)
88: Number of miles driven on Utah's Scenic Byway 12, voted as the most scenic byway in America and second in the world (at least that's what they told us at the visitor center! It is beautiful.)
1: Number of laundry mats used since leaving Wisconsin (number is so low thanks to the generosity of family and friends!)
3,687: Total number of photos taken on the trip (and that's after sorting... yikes!)
Countless: number of times Walden has quoted his favorite Minion video clip from Despicable Me ("Wait. Wait. I haven't told you what it is yet. Dave...listen up please!")
Too Many: Amazing places we pass by because there are not enough hours in a day to see and do everything (wow, there is a lot of beauty in this country)
